F4 was being appointed as ambassador for Taiwan’s Tourism promoting in Japan and Korea recently, introducing Taiwan on its main tourist attractions. During the press conference held, 3 members of the group mentioned Taiwan as a ‘country’, thus causing much controversy in the internet.
F4’s Jerry was quoted saying, “Very happy to be able to do something for our country and I felt Taiwan is a place where there is a touch of humanity…”. Another member, VanNess was also being quoted to have said this, “ I felt Taiwan is a country full of passion and I actually felt there is a lot of similarities between Taiwan and Korea….” Then member, Vic went on to say this to the Korea’s media, “I felt Taiwan is a country full of passion and the people there, are full of sense of humour, actually coming to Taiwan will be able to get some extend of satisfactory, that is because, Taiwanese are very very willing to accept and be harmony to people from different countries...”
Such statements made, could arose anger among people who are very sensitive to such topics or terms.
For example, just a couple of days ago, fellow Taiwanese artiste, Jay Chou was being asked of a famous person in China but Jay claimed he do not know who is he and was being labeled as ‘no culture’ awareness. An artiste such as Jay who can write his own songs, sings and now acting cum directed his first motion movie, has no culture? But it had proven during that interview, he was really not aware who the famous figure is as in the entertainment industry, no one can really tell apart the truth or fraud. Whether does Jay knew about that person is probably another secret of his. If Jay needs to be re-educated on the China's history, then F4 will need to do so too on the areas that they had been found ignorant in.
Such ‘mistakes’ were not only made by Jay and F4 but also to other Taiwanese artistes, such as, Rainie Yang, when discussed on the topic of the ‘Nanjing Massacre’ happened in China back in history, she responded ‘only 8 years?’ That reply created havoc and she was being 'marked'. Another artiste 'Meng Guang Mei' had also made bad remarks smearing China’s image. Then there was Coco Lee, when heard the song 'Man Jiang Hong', knowing the lyrics was by 'Yue Fei' (a famous ancient China war hero but seems she was not aware he was long 'gone'), asked her record company to get him to write new songs for her! Will 'Yue Fei' be mad if he were to know about this 'request' from her???!!!
Anyone noticed that those who made such igorant mistakes were mainly Taiwanese artistes? Before we start to put the blame or accused them, why not try to put ourselves in their shoes? These Taiwanese artistes, had been educated from young based on Taiwan education system and versions different from ours, furthermore, we have to admit to a fact, that is, the political issues between Taiwan and China are still not resolved, we cannot kept arguing on such topics without end and also cannot expect each artiste to arm with a strong political approach or attitude. It is not surprise back in Taiwan, most people will consider their land is a country. Popular Taiwanese host, 'Wu Zhong Xian' (a.k.a. Jacky Wu) had been 'caught' not only once did he mentioned Taiwan as a 'country' in events and shows that he had appeared in, yet he was still being invited by China's tv station to host their shows! Then Jolin Tsai, another Taiwanese artiste, attended an event in a Taiwanese military school, made a statement 'Our country has hope', so are we supposed to pull everyone of them out and made them parade publicly in China, adding a sign on them labelled 'dividing China'? If that is the need, then that should be done ONLY after Taiwan had really 'returned' back to China.
There are alot of sensitive factors revolving in such issues and there is not always answer to everything, for those so-call patriotic people, must not have seen the original novel where the movie 'The Memories of a Geisha' was being adapted. They had also criticized heavily on the leading lady, 'Zhang Zhi Yi' who is an artiste from China. These patriotic people may think prostitudes will be postitudes. 'Zhang Zhi Yi' character as the geisha, was a prostitude being laid on by a Japanese man, so should 'Zhang Zhi Yi' be considered really being laid on by Japanese man that is also presenting China women being laid on by Japanese men as well, thus, ALSO meaning China is being laid on by Japan? What exactly is that kind of 'theory' all about! Is this Patriotic youngster's Patriotic theory?
F4's statement may not be considered appropriate in this matter, as they have a choice of not to say, but since it had already happened, what was done is done, there is no point to keep pounding them on this, there is also no such need to make the matter worse, as any political issues that relate to Taiwan's current political position, there is really nothing any artiste can do, to change anything.
